Is there still a separate W3Champions and Battle.net version?

No. Castle Fight now has one official universal version for both Battle.net and W3Champions. Modes are no longer locked to a separate W3Champions build; W3Champions ladder games apply their automode automatically, while regular lobbies can use the normal mode selection.

Q: What is the advantage of W3Champions over Battle.net?

W3Champions offers automatic map updates, matchmaking, reconnecting, statistics and other services which are not available to custom maps on battle.net. For Castle Fight specifically, ranked activity is usually strongest during the European evening window, around 18:00 to 22:00 CET/CEST.

Q: What is the current W3Champions ladder preset?

W3Champions ladder games currently apply -ud1-na-it7-mt-glw33-noai automatically. Modes are not locked in the universal map version.

What do I need to do to play on W3C?

Simply go to the W3C website. Click "Download now!" and choose the version for your operating system.
Run the install, sign in to Battle.net and it's done. There is no need to pre-launch Battle.net, Warcraft 3 or download the maps, the app will do it automatically when you decide to queue up for a game.
In case your W3 is not fully updated, the app will request you manually update W3.

If you want the best chance of fast matches, queue during the European evening peak, typically 18:00 to 22:00 CET/CEST.

How to deal with confusing unofficial CF copies

How to discern the unofficial versions:

  • Unbalanced and weird features - way too strong, weak or out of place.
  • Random crashes and disconnects.
  • Broken or outright not working features like perks that do nothing the entire game.
  • Features that you are not used to seeing, as people behind it seem to favor quantity and novelty over quality and balance.
  • Compare the version to the official releases on this website; keep in mind version numbers and map names can be spoofed.
  • We're also working on a snazzy little feature that will help you verify if you're playing an official version, but it's not ready yet.

How to avoid them entirely:

  • Play on W3C, this platform automatically downloads the newest, official version of the map. You can find the most games here around 18-22 CE(S)T.
  • Delete all your downloaded CF:DE maps, then only download the official current version from W3Champions or Hive. Be careful with Battle.net lobbies that make you download a map using the same or very similar name, unless you trust the host.
  • Only host lobbies yourself or by trusted people.

How you can help:

  • Let other people know by the word of mouth (or keyboard).
  • Avoid hosting confusing unofficial copies yourself.
  • Check our website every few days or weeks, where you can find updated versions, news etc.
